2019 Spring Recital!

Dance Mission’s 2019 Spring Recital

 Date/Times: Saturday, May 18, 2019. Dress Rehearsal 9am-2pm. Return to backstage 4:30pm. Recital 5:00pm. After-Party 7:45pm-8:30pm.

Location: Gillioz Theatre, 325 Park Central E., Springfield, MO 65806. FREE PARKING AT 235 N Benton Ave. parking garage, 428 E St. Louis St lot, 310 N Boonville Ave lot, and 313 N Boonville Ave lot. There’s also a $5 parking garage at 434 E. McDaniel St (See attached map for more info.)

DRESS REHEARSAL: *9:00am-2:00pm* Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Gillioz Theatre. 9am all families must be seated in the auditorium with dancers dressed in costume and ready for orientation and to practice our show-opener, “Come Alive.” If not able to come fully dressed in costume, ARRIVE EARLIER to be stage-ready by 9am! Hair and makeup can be done at home PRIOR TO arrival. Please bring yourselves and all belongings into the auditorium and have a seat for orientation when we will explain location of dancers’ holding areas, the flow of post-show-opener dancers into their holding areas, and drop-off/pick-up locations for dancers and their belongings. Children need to be seated with their families at all times, not running on stage or around the auditorium.

*Most dancers will not need to be present the whole time and may leave right after their class’ final dances are practiced on stage. (See attached show order.) Our dancers in the 1st half, routines 2-25, should be finished and able to go home by 12:00pm or sooner. Our dancers in the 2nd half, routines 26-39, can leave rehearsals after 9am orientation and show opener practice is finished (around 9:45am hopefully), and then at 11:45am they will need to return to the theatre to rehearse their 2nd  half routines. Some of our dancers are in several routines in BOTH the 1st and 2nd halves of the show, so for those dancers who will be there 9am-2pm, please bring non-messy snacks (i.e. crackers, fruit snacks, etc) and water only to avoid staining costumes. Also, please bring activities like books, tablets, coloring books, etc to help keep kids entertained while they wait for their time to perform.

Classes will have designated waiting areas so they may be easily retrieved by Dance Mission staff when needed for their times on stage, so please do not take them into audience; they may miss their stage-time. Staff will NOT retrieve dancers from audience. After the performers are finished, parents will meet them in the “Gallery” upstairs to take them home or to the audience to watch the rest of the show.

New this year, parent-volunteers will supervise and assist small groups of students, so some parents can remain seated during the entire show. For more info on volunteering for your child’s class, please speak to a Dance Mission instructor.

Dancers’ Attire for Dress Rehearsal AND Recital:

1. Costume on w/headpiece/accessories (NO OTHER JEWELRY OR ACCESSORIES and NO GUM)

2. Tights/Undergarments— Nude/Tan colored FOOTED or CONVERTIBLE tights required for everyone, except optional for hip hop classes and boys.  Nude cami-leotards worn under costumes are optional and recommended to help our dancers feel more covered and comfortable and to aid in costume quick-changes for some of our busiest dancers.

3. Dance shoes—

·         Combo classes need black tap, THEN peach/pink ballet shoes. Drop off bags w/ballet shoes backstage in assigned areas.

·         Dancenastics, Aerial Silks, Aerial Silks/Dancenastics,  and Acro classes need bare feet.

·         Lyrical and Ballet classes need peach/pink/nude ballet slippers or half-shoes.

·         Hip Hop classes need mostly black jazz shoes or sneakers.

·         Tap/Jazz class needs black tap shoes.

4. Makeup (Optional)—  Black mascara. Dark brown eyebrow shade/pencil. In the crease above eyelids, apply a brown eyeshadow; brown metallic shades work well for all skin tones. Apply a light cream metallic eyeshadow on the eyelids and under browbones.  On the cheeks, apply a light-medium pink blush for lighter skin tones, or medium pink-bronze blush for darker skin tones. Berry/mauve lipstick works well with all skin tones.

5. Hair/Accessories—  All classes, except for hip hop, need a BUN in the back middle of the head. If applicable, clip hair accessories beside bun on THEIR left. (HAIRNETS ON BUNS & BOBBY PINS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!) Hip Hop classes need ponytail in the middle back of the head with their costumes’ beanies, bandannas, or scrunchies, depending on whichever came with the classes’ costumes. CLIP/BOBBY PIN HATS, HEADBANDS, AND OTHER HAIR ACCESSORIES SECURELY TO HAIR!

RECITAL: Recital cost is free for all to attend. It is open seating; no tickets required. The theater will open to the public at 4:30pm, so there is no need to arrive before then. Flash photography is NOT allowed for the safety of the dancers. A professional free online video of the recital will be available to all families.

4:30pm all dancers must be stage-ready with hair and makeup done in costumes in the Gillioz Theatre backstage/show opener assigned areas (same areas they had before at dress rehearsal)!

5:00pm the recital will promptly begin in the Gillioz Theatre. All dancers are in the first dance, our show-opener, titled “Come Alive,” then they will perform with their classes in the show order attached. Classes will have designated waiting areas so they may be easily retrieved by Dance Mission staff when needed for their times on stage, so please do not take them into the audience; they may miss their stage-time. Staff will NOT retrieve dancers from audience. After the performers are finished with their routines, parents will meet them in the “Gallery” upstairs to take them home or into the audience to watch the rest of the show. New this year, parent-volunteers will supervise and assist small groups of students, so some parents can remain seated during the entire show. For more info on volunteering for your child’s class, please speak to a Dance Mission instructor. Recital should end around 7:45pm.

7:45pm the after-party will begin immediately following the recital in the entrance hallway and is free for all dancers, friends, and families to attend until 8:30pm. Light refreshments will be served!

Photo Week!

SMILE! Our dancers will have group/individual photos in their costumes at Dance Mission, April 30-May 3 during their regular class times! You are not obligated to buy these, but please dress your dancers in their costumes regardless so we may have complete group photos made as well as rehearse dances in costumes. Just bring them to class at their normal time that week except have them picture-ready in costumes! Siblings may attend a sibling's picture day if taking a sibling dance photo together. (SHOES, HAIR, AND MAKEUP ARE YOUR CHOICE FOR PICTURE DAY!) Payment envelopes with payments to Becci Leigh Photography are also due the day of pictures. You don't have to pay shipping costs on photos if you will just pick them up at Dance Mission!
