Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Join the Dance Mission team for a 2 mile walk as we raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation! Every step is another "Great Stride" toward a cure to cystic fibrosis.

Check-in begins at 9am on Sat. Oct. 7 at the Rutledge Wilson Community Farm Park in Springfield, MO. The 2-mile walk begins at 10am.

Walk day is a FREE, fun, family-oriented event with a healthy walk, children's activities, food, and festivities that participants look forward to year after year.

This outdoor festival is a great community event to showcase Dance Mission's dancers just weeks before our recital! We'll wear the same costumes as recital to this optional performance with no extra fees for performers. All performers and children age 5 and under receive free entry! Family members can enter the festival for $5 at the gate or purchase $3 entry tickets in advance at Springfield McDonald's, available April 19. Many other dance studios, artists, and vendors get together on this weekend each year to celebrate the amazing arts here in Springfield, MO! Please let me know if you have any questions or conflicts with performing at Artsfest! I look forward to showing the community the brilliant dancers we have at Dance Mission!

2017 Dance Mission Recital at MSU’s Plaster Student Union Theater!

 Date/Times: Saturday, May 20, 2017. Dress Rehearsal 10am, Return 5pm, Recital 5:30pm

Location: Plaster Student Union Theater at MSU, 1110 E. Madison St., Springfield, MO 65897. See map below!

Dress Rehearsal: 10:00am-2:00pm on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Plaster Student Union Theater. Most dancers will not need to be present the whole time and may leave right after their class’ final dances are practiced on stage.

10am all dancers must be in the PSU 1st floor lounge dressed and ready to practice our show-opener, “I Lived.” If not able to come fully dressed in costume, ARRIVE EARLIER to be stage-ready by 10am! Hair and makeup can be done at home PRIOR TO arrival. Then dancers will practice their class’ dances in the show order attached.

Classes will have designated areas of the lounge to wait in so they may be easily retrieved when needed for their times on stage by Dance Mission staff.

Vending machines and water fountains are around, but you may also bring dry/non-messy snacks, water, and activities to keep children entertained in the lounge while they wait for their time on stage. Seats for recital cannot be reserved at dress rehearsal.

Dancers’ Attire:

1. Recital costume with headpiece/accessories (NO OTHER JEWELRY OR ACCESSORIES and NO GUM)

2. Tights—

·         Combo classes need footed (covers feet) white or light pink tights;

·         Intermediate Ballet & Lyrical classes need footed (covers feet) nude tights;

·         Dancenastics and Hip Hop classes require no tights. (“Hair Up” hip hop dancers may wear nude tights, but not required.)

3. Dance shoes—

·         Combo classes need peach/pink ballet shoes THEN black tap shoes, in that order for their dances.

·         Intermediate Ballet and Lyrical classes need peach/pink/nude ballet slippers or half-shoes.

·         Dancenastics classes need bare feet.

·         Hip Hop classes need mostly black jazz shoes/sneakers.

4. Makeup (Optional)—Brown eye shadow, black mascara, brown eyebrow pencil/shade, pink blush, and dark berry lipstick.

5. Hair/Accessories—(CLIP OR BOBBY PIN HEADBANDS AND OTHER HAIR ACCESSORIES SECURLY TO THE HAIR!)

·         Combo classes need high bun for ballet dance THEN high ponytail in that order for dances; both dances with costume headpiece over LEFT ear. (HAIRNETS ON BUNS AND BOBBY PINS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!)

·         Intermediate Ballet and Lyrical classes need a low bun under the LEFT ear with Ballet costume headband or Lyrical costume headpiece above LEFT ear. (HAIRNETS ON BUNS AND BOBBY PINS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!)

·         Dancenastics classes need low side ponytail below LEFT ear with costume headband on or headpiece over LEFT ear.

·         Hip Hop classes--“Hair Up” needs high front-side ponytail over LEFT ear with hair extension in it, gloves, and tube socks.; “Burn It Up” needs low side ponytail under LEFT ear; “Undefeated” needs one low messy bun under the LEFT ear and costume headband.                                

Recital: Recital cost is free for all to attend. It is open seating; no tickets required. The theater will open to the public at 4:30pm, so there is no need to arrive before then. No flash photography allowed for the safety of the dancers. A professional free online video of the recital will be available to all families.

5:00pm all dancers must be stage-ready with hair and makeup done in costumes in the Plaster Student Union 1st floor lounge.

The recital will begin promptly at 5:30pm in the Plaster Student Union Theater. All dancers are in the first dance, our show-opener, titled “I Lived,” then they will perform with their classes in the show order attached. Recital should end around 7pm.

The after-party will be 7:00-8:00pm immediately following the recital in the 2nd floor atrium and is free for all dancers, friends, and families to attend. Refreshments will be served!

Photos at Dance Mission

May 1-5, our dancers will have group/individual photos in their costumes during part of their regular class times at Dance Mission! You are not obligated to buy these, but please dress your dancers in their costumes regardless so we may have complete group photos made as well as rehearse in costumes. Just bring them to class at their normal time that week except have them picture-ready in costume! (SHOES, HAIR, AND MAKEUP ARE YOUR CHOICE!) Payment envelopes with payments to Clear Creative Photography are also due the day of pictures. You don't have to pay shipping costs on photos if you will just pick them up at Dance Mission!

December will require the same fee as a full-month despite the week-long closing. Monday and Tuesday classes will not need any make-up classes since January follows up with five Monday and Tuesday classes. Wednesday and Thursday classes will also not need any make-up classes since March has five Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you still feel you require a make-up class, please let the studio know and we will try our best to find one.

"Nutcracker Supreme" Week

Dance Mission presents, “Nutcracker Supreme”--a reinvented, reimagined, remixed version of the The Nutcracker.

On the night of their regular classes, dancers will showcase their talents in hip hop, tap, lyrical, ballet, and dancenastics, set to music composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky as well as some modern remixes.

Our story unfolds as Clara’s beloved Nutcracker doll comes to life and defeats the evil Mouse King and his gang of mice. Then the lovely Snow Angels show Clara and the Nutcracker Prince through their snowy forest and into the Land of the Sweets. There they meet an assorted bunch of characters eager to treat them to a celebration beyond imagination!

Tickets required. Families will receive 3 free tickets for assigned seats. Extras may be available if requested in advance.

Costume Info for Nutcracker Supreme

Clara: Light colored dress or nightgown, light pink, nude, or no tights, pink ballet shoes. (Hair bow and tiara provided at studio.) Hair half-pulled back.

Nutcracker: Black pants, white or black long-sleeve shirt, black shoes. (Soldier hat and vest provided at studio.)

Mouse King: Black pants, black shirt, black cape, black shoes. (Mouse ears and crown provided at studio.)

Mice and Chinese Tea: Black leotard, optional attached skirt; black, light pink, nude, white, or no tights; pink or black ballet shoes. Black makeup nose & whiskers. (Mouse ears & mask provided at studio.) Hair in low ponytail.

Soldiers and Chinese Tea: Black leotards, black leggings, and pink or black ballet shoes. Red makeup for quarter-sized circles on cheeks. (Hat, vest, & mask provided at studio.) Hair in low ponytail.

Bon Bons: Pink or black leotards, no tights or footless tights, barefeet. (Skirt and hair bow provided at studio). Hair in high messybun.

Snow: White dresses, light pink or white tights, pink ballet shoes. (Headpiece provided at studio.) Hair in low ponytail.

Spanish Chocolate: Black leotard, light pink or white tights, pink ballet shoes. (Skirt, fan, & flower hairclip provided at studio.) Hair in low ponytail.

Arabian Coffee: Black leotard, light pink or white tights, pink ballet shoes. (Coin skirt provided at studio.) Hair in low ponytail.

Reed Flutes: White dresses, light pink or white tights, pink ballet shoes. (Flute and flower hairclip provided at studio.) Hair in low ponytail.
